| Students in Pre-K through Grade 12 have access to three libraries at The Albany Academies. Library collections and programs promote a lifelong love of reading, along with ease in locating, organizing and synthesizing knowledge. The libraries’ collections contain a wealth of treasures, including a combined 32,000 volumes and more than 2,000 DVDs, videotapes and CDs. The libraries also provide direct access to thousands of periodicals through the 18 online databases available to the students.
The AA McNamee (Lower) and Middle/Upper School Libraries are newly renovated and fully automated and networked with 12 computers. Wireless access for student laptops is also provided. The AAG Library includes a separate space for Lower School children, a classroom where Middle and Upper School students can meet and begin their research, and a variety of study tables, carrels and upholstered furniture. The AAG & AA Archives house materials from both schools' rich histories.
The libraries are part of the Capital Region BOCES School Library System. This membership facilitates the interlibrary loan process and makes a number of online databases available to the school at a reduced rate. Several other databases are available through the New York State Library’s NOVEL, the statewide virtual library. Books circulate for three weeks and may be renewed.
NEW ONLINE CATALOG!
We are delighted to announce the launch of our new online catalog -- Follett Destiny. This web-based library automation system can be accessed from any Internet connection to search for books, audiovisual resources, online databases and e-books in the school's collection, in addition to a wealth of teacher-selected Web pages.
Title Peek offers visual images of book covers along with book reviews and summaries, and Destiny Quest is an interactive interface that allows users to create lists, submit reviews and view new additions to the collection.
