  • Human Resource Director

    Overview
    Albany Academy is the first and only independent, preparatory, Pre-K through post-graduate school in New York’s Capital Region.     Position Summary – Lead and manage the Human Resources function in a way that most effectively enables the school to fulfill its mission

    Employer/Employee Relations
    • Monitor employee engagement and recommend appropriate adjustments to policies and practices
    • Support leaders in planning and executing employee appreciation and recognition events
    • Be a voice of positive recognition for all employees
    • Assist managers in resolving workplace conflicts
    • Serve as ombudsperson for employees that raise questions and concerns
    • Investigate employee concerns/complaints/issues and take appropriate steps, in consultation with other leaders and the Head of School
    Compensation
    • Lead and manage the annual rate review process
    • Negotiate and deliver renewal contracts on an annual basis
    • Establish and document the roles to be done beyond the primary work (stipends)
    • Routinely evaluate competitive pay practices
    • Recommend appropriate compensation for new hires 
    Benefits
    • Plan and provide a set of benefits that contributes to attracting and retaining talent
    • Monitor employee usage and satisfaction of the various benefit plans
    • Manage the annual benefits open enrollment process
    • Assist in benefits review and enrollment for new employees
    Staffing
    • Collaborate with school leaders to develop a staffing plan that most effectively serves the mission of the school
    • Recruit best available talent to fill open roles
    Employee Development
    • Oversee and facilitate an annual evaluation process for all employees
    • Support professional development
    • Assist managers in addressing under performance
    • Support the new employee orientation process
    HR Information Systems
    • Maintain the integrity of HRIS data
    • Train managers and employees on use of the self-service aspects of the HRIS system
    • Regularly evaluate the potential for deploying additional aspects of the HRIS
    Employee Leaves and Departures
    • Support employee leave requests, including preparing leave paperwork and managing their return to work
    • Obtain and record in the HRIS resignations from departing employees
    • Conduct exit meetings with departing employees and capture data in a way that enables assessment of trends
    • Communicate departures to the professional community
    • Document the terms of the exit for each departing employee and record in HRIS
    • Ensure COBRA documentation is provided
    Qualifications
    • Education - Bachelor’s degree in human resources and/or organizational development
    • Certification – Society Human Resource Management or HR Certification Institute (desired)
    • Experience - 7+ years of progressive experience with a professional workforce, across a variety of HR disciplines including strategic planning, HR policy, employee relations and benefits, at least 3 years in a leadership position
    • Deep knowledge of Federal and New York State labor laws and regulations

    Direct Reports: Human Resource Assistant, Human Resource
    Manager

    Reports to: Head of School

    Status: Full-time, 12-month, salaried position

    Schedule:  Monday to Friday, 7:45am – 4:15pm

    Compensation: $85,000 - $100,000 per year

  • Extended Day Staff Member

    Schedule:
    • Extended day operates every school day from 3:30 pm-5:30 pm.
    • Position is open to anyone that can consistently work at least 2 days per week
    Responsibilities
    • Receive Pre-School through 4th grade students as they enter the facility
    • Provide age-appropriate activities
    • Ensure student safety
    • Escort students to the parking lot at the end of their day
    Reports to: Judi Morrissey, Extended Day Manager
     
    Status: This is a part-time, hourly position
     
    Compensation: $14.20 - $24.00
     
    Requires a background check and submission of fingerprints to the NY State Education Department

  • Facilities Maintenance Technician

    Role Summary
    Provide general facilities maintenance and support services.

    Responsibilities
    Building maintenance including, but not limited to:
    • Repair of equipment, buildings, furniture
    • Light construction
    • Painting
    • Moving equipment and furniture
    • Electrical

    • Carpentry
    • Grounds – field striping and other grounds maintenance
    • Event set-up and tear-down
    • Custodial duties as assigned
    Qualifications
    • 3 years of facilities maintenance or equivalent experience in one or more trades
    • High school diploma
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Able to work occasional nights and weekends
    • Demonstrated verbal communication skills
