Feb. 2025 Alumni Association Update

The Alumni Board of Directors remains most active as we look forward to seeing Spring activities begin on Academy Road. The Board asks YOU to join us in these activities as we engage with our current students.

A BUSY first few months of Winter, now moving to Spring...

The Annual Frank O’Brien ’84 Memorial Alumnae/i Hockey Game: This highly anticipated annual event, held on December 27, 2024, was most well attended with 34 “on-ice” participants and more than 80 overall attendees! Well done to Scott Momrow ’90, Mark Spiers ’99, Neil Johanning ’73, and the IA Team for coordinating and hosting this always special “reunion” of Academy Ice Hockey Alumnae/i!

On Sunday, January 5, the Academy community cheered on the Academy Boys in Basketball against CBA, and the Academy Girls against Holy Names in a doubleheader at Siena College’s UHY Center. Both games were resounding victories for Academy. Of note, both teams are ranked in the Top 5 in New York State.

Alumnae/i Regional Receptions: The Boston Region Reception was held in December 2024, with 25 attendees. The Atlanta Reception was held in January, with 18 attendees. The next Reception is scheduled for New York City on March 13. Future Receptions are being planned, please contact Laura Hopper with other suggested sites!

AAG Archives Project: Join the AAG Archive Project to preserve treasured memories and inspire future generations: Give to the AAG Archive.

Upcoming Major Events–YOU can assist / participate in:

The Gala (formerly, Spring Gathering) will be held on April 5 at Loft 433 in Troy. A great location for the Academy’s annual, premier fundraising event. Come and show your support for our Academy!

Career Mentor Event for Form V, April 30, 2 – 3:30 PM: share your time and experiences with our Juniors in a round-robin discussion of your college days and career. The Fall event with the Seniors was superb. Contact me or Laura Hopper if you are interested in being a Mentor.  

Reunion: May 15 - 17; Don’t miss it; Registration is OPEN!

CONGRATULATIONS to our Award recipients who will be honored during the Reunion festivities!

Alumni Golf Outing: June 16 Please don’t forget to contribute to the Academy Fund prior to June 30. The education of Albany Academy students cannot happen without ALL of us being members of the team!

Finally, let us pause to remember one of our own, John McClintock ’57, Faculty Emeritus, Distinguished Alumnus, and Archivist Emeritus, upon his recent passing. His contributions as a student, teacher, and archivist to our Academy will be long remembered by those of us privileged to have been his student, classmate, or colleague. His Memorial Service will be held on March 2 in Caird Chapel at the Academy. May he rest in peace.
