This spring, Albany Academy Middle School students demonstrated remarkable dedication and linguistic mastery, bringing home top honors on both the National Spanish Exam and the National Latin Exam.

National Spanish Exam

Administered by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP), this rigorous exam evaluates students' language proficiency and achievement across the country. Our scholars earned an exceptional array of accolades this year:

  • Gold Medal & Perfect Score (99th Percentile Nationally): Thomas G. '30 and Sofia L. '30

  • Silver Medal (85th Percentile Nationally): Myra O. '30

  • Honorable Mention: Arshan E. '30, Ingrid S. '30, Miles C. '30, Vanessa H. '30, Rockwell F. '30, Wes S. '30, Eloise H. '30, Ethan Z. '30, and Brooke W. '30

National Latin Exam

Sponsored by the American Classical League (ACL) and National Junior Classical League (NJCL), this international assessment tests over 100,000 students from 50 states and 27 countries. It evaluates mastery of Latin grammar, vocabulary, derivatives, and reading comprehension, alongside Ancient Roman history, culture, and mythology.

After beginning intensive review in February for the early March exam, our Middle School students scored well above the national average:

  • Summa Cum Laude & Gold Medal (Top 10%): Lucy W. '30 and Sarah H. '31 (A special congratulations to Sarah, a 7th grader who took a high school-level exam and still achieved the top tier!)

  • Maxima Cum Laude & Silver Medal (Top 25%): Henry R. '30, Lexi K. '30, and Nerissa M. '30

  • Magna Cum Laude (Top 30%): Kafena G. '30 and Cailyn P. '30

Congratulations to all of these Middle School scholars on their incredible hard work!
