Winter 2026 Athletic Awards

We are proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our winter student-athletes. This year’s award recipients represent the very best of Albany Academy athletics, demonstrating leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, and excellence both in the classroom and in competition.

Across hockey, indoor track, table tennis, basketball, squash, skiing, and swimming the award winners exemplified the values that define our community. From athletes who led with integrity to those who inspired their teammates through perseverance and passion, each honoree helped elevate their program and strengthen the spirit of Academy athletics.

These awards honor students who have shown commitment, character, and curiosity, and who embody what it means to compete with purpose and pride. Congratulations, students!

2026 Albany Academy Winter Athletic Awards Recipients:    

MARY ANN SMITH MEMORIAL AWARD
Given annually by her family and friends, this award is selected by a committee including the Director of Athletics, Head Hockey Coach, and the hockey staff. It is presented to a student in Form V, VI, or PG who best exemplifies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey.

JONAH LINDSEY

FREDERICK A. PLUNKETT ’68 AWARD
Given annually by friends in his memory to the hockey player who, in the opinion of the committee, has shown the greatest improvement in team play and dedication to the development of hockey skills through personal sacrifice.

OLIVIER TELLIER

COACH JERRY BASKETBALL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
Presented to a female senior basketball player who has devoted several years to the program and consistently displays a high level of sportsmanship.

MORGAN VIEN

T. VAN ANTWERP WALDRON ’32 PRIZE
Awarded to a senior who distinguishes himself both as a basketball player and as a student, demonstrating integrity, commitment, and achievement.

JACK LOURIDAS

GREGORY V. McQUIDE ’87 AWARD
Given by friends in his memory to a member of the swimming team who has participated for a minimum of three years and has demonstrated a desire to improve himself and support his teammates while upholding the ideals of The Albany Academy swimming program through effort and leadership.

GIRLS SWIMMING AND DIVING COACHES AWARD
Presented to a member of the swimming team who has participated for a minimum of two years and demonstrated a desire to improve herself and support others while promoting the ideals of The Albany Academy swimming program through her effort and leadership.

J.A.M. ’81 ALPINE SKI AWARD 
Given to a top varsity girl skier who exemplifies the qualities that define an Academy student: academics, athletics, sportsmanship, teamwork, and integrity.

Presented to the member of the Indoor Track and Field Team whose sportsmanship, dignity, tireless effort, and dedication to his team are deemed most exemplary.

CATLETT INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD AWARD
Awarded to a team member who demonstrates dedication as an athlete, integrity as a student, achievement, and a high level of sportsmanship.

COACH BESTLE / DR. CHEN TABLE TENNIS AWARD
Presented to a member of the Table Tennis team whose effort, dedication, and commitment have exceeded all expectations.
