International Checklist

The general application deadline is February 15.  Applications received after that date will be considered on a space available basis. 

 A non-refundable $250 application fee is required for all international applicants.   

 The student portion of the application must be completed by the applicant in his/her own writing. 

Three academic recommendations are required. One from the applicant’s current math teacher, English teacher, and Principal/Counselor. All recommendations must be signed and completed in English. Recommendations may be sent via mail, fax, or e-mail to the Admissions Office. 

An official school transcript is required. All grades must be translated in English. Transcripts must reflect both the current year and two previous years of education. In addition, complete health records are required. 

 All applicants are required to take an entrance exam. If the applicant is unable to visit Albany Academy and take the entrance exam on campus, he/she is required to submit SSAT exam scores. To register for the SSAT exam, or to inquire about test dates and locations, visit the SSAT website at www.ssat.org.  The Albany Academy school code is 1167. 

International applicants must be fluent in English. The applicant must be proficient in their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. All non-native English-speaking applicants are required to submit TOEFL exam scores. A minimum TOEFL score of 90 is required. To register for the TOEFL exam, or to inquire about test dates and locations, visit the TOEFL website at www.ets.org. The Albany Academy school code is B422. 

 All applicants are encouraged to visit Albany Academy in Albany, NY and spend a day on campus. If a visit is not possible, a virtual interview is required. The Admissions Office will schedule a virtual interview once the applicant’s admissions file is complete.  

A copy of the applicant’s current Passport and Visa are required. 

Please submit proof of financial support in the form of an official bank statement with your application reflecting the full amount of tuition, health insurance, and housing costs. The amount must be reflected in U.S. dollars. 

Albany Academy is an SEVP certified school. Once an applicant has been accepted, an enrollment contract will be sent along with the required health insurance and immunization forms. An I-20 will be created and issued to the applicant once the signed enrollment contract and deposit are received along with the required health forms.   

A Health Insurance plan is provided by Albany Academy and is required for all international students once they enroll.   

Albany Academy is a day school and does not provide on-campus housing. Many international students make hosting arrangements to live with a local family member or friend, or use the services of their recruiting agency to provide host family arrangements. If a host family is needed, families will be referred to a hosting agency. All international students must complete and return the Housed Student Forms to Albany Academy.
