At Albany Academy’s Middle School, the arts program is designed to deepen artistic development while building confidence, creativity, and self-expression. Building upon foundational skills, students explore more sophisticated techniques in visual and performing arts, honing their abilities to think critically, collaborate, and communicate through their craft.

Whether on stage, in the studio, or behind the scenes, Middle School students are encouraged to take risks, experiment with new forms of artistic expression, and develop a personal voice. Through this immersive experience, they not only strengthen their artistic skills but also cultivate the confidence and adaptability that will serve them in all areas of life.

Dance & Movement

At Albany Academy, dance and movement are more than physical activity—they are a powerful means of communication, creativity, and self-discovery. Through the study of various dance genres and the foundational elements of choreography—composition, performance, and reflection—Middle School students gain not only technical skill but a deeper appreciation for movement as an expressive art form.

In an environment that nurtures imagination, individuality, and artistic risk-taking, students take ownership of their own creativity, developing confidence, discipline, and an appreciation for the performing arts.

Theatre

At Albany Academy Middle School, theatre is about more than performing—it’s about being comfortable with being uncomfortable, taking creative risks, and finding confidence in self-expression. Our theatre program empowers students to step outside their comfort zones, command a stage, and connect with an audience.

Through body language, vocal inflection, acting techniques, and improvisation, students develop the skills to communicate effectively and authentically. Whether delivering a monologue, engaging in improv, or collaborating on a production, they build poise, adaptability, and presence—skills that serve them far beyond the stage.

Visual Arts

Our Middle School students explore, create, and refine their artistic voice through a dynamic visual arts program that expands both creativity and technical expertise. Engaging with a variety of mediums and techniques, they develop the skills to express themselves confidently and think critically about the world around them.

With projects designed to foster individual expression, students take ownership of their artistic journey. In 8th grade, they explore photography, adding another dimension to their creative toolkit as they continue to hone their ability to communicate ideas visually.

Music

Our middle school students discover the power of music as a means of expression, creativity, and collaboration, embracing opportunities that challenge them. Through performance projects and dynamic musical experiences, they develop technical skills while gaining the confidence to share their artistry.

Whether mastering an individual instrument or performing as part of an ensemble, students refine their craft, explore diverse musical styles, and experience the joy of making music together. The program nurtures their musicianship, discipline, and appreciation for the arts, ensuring that every student finds their unique voice through sound—and carries it forward with confidence.
