Open Swim
We welcome the community to enjoy open swim hours in the Albany Academy warm-water pool, maintained at a comfortable 82 degrees—ideal for aquatic fitness, rehabilitation, or simply starting your day with a swim. Professional coaches will be on-site to supervise and serve as certified lifeguards.
The James E. Poole Athletic Facility is a transformational addition to campus life—offering 33,000 square feet of flexible practice space that supports the full range of athletic offerings at Albany Academy. Designed to accommodate multiple practices at once, the facility gives student-athletes a balanced schedule that allows them to fully engage in both academics and athletics.
Named in honor of legendary coach and mentor James E. Poole, the facility reflects the Academy’s deep commitment to student growth, teamwork, and community. From its thoughtful design to its daily use by students and coaches, the Poole Athletic Facility is a lasting investment in the well-being and success of generations of student-athletes.
We are deeply grateful to the many donors who made this space possible through their vision and generosity.
Construction of the Field House began in the spring of 1964 under Waldbillig Construction, following the vision of architect Donald J. Stephens. By January 1965, the facility proudly hosted its first hockey game, followed by its inaugural wrestling match that December. Officially dedicated in February 1966, the Field House became a cornerstone of campus life—home to the ice rink, gymnasium, wrestling room, locker facilities, and athletic offices. That same year, it welcomed the first Winter Sports Festival, featuring spirited invitational competitions in swimming, hockey, wrestling, and basketball.
In 2016, the Field House was rededicated as the Michael B. Picotte Field House, thanks to a generous lead gift from Michael Picotte ’65 and Margi Picotte. Their support has transformed the space for a new generation of Albany Academy and AAG student-athletes—enhancing athletic experiences and offering a vibrant gathering place for our entire community.
Located in the Silipigno Athletic Facility at 135 Academy Road, our squash corts offer students a fast-paced, skill-based sport that builds agility, focus, and sportsmanship. Whether new to the game or refining their technique, players benefit from on-campus courts, individualized coaching, and opportunities to compete at various levels.
Inside the Michael B. Picotte Field House, the Robison Hockey Rink is a standout feature of Albany Academy’s athletic program. The rink provides a dedicated environment where student-athletes sharpen their skills, build camaraderie, and take pride in representing the Academy on the ice.
With a long-standing tradition of competitive hockey, the rink serves as both a training ground and a home arena for spirited matchups throughout the season. From early morning practices to high-energy games, the space fosters growth, discipline, and teamwork in every player who laces up their skates.
The Robison Rink also welcomes younger students as learning to skate is part of the Lower School P.E. curriculum.
Albany Academy’s Dance Studio supports a curriculum that blends technique, creativity, and performance. Offered as part of the P.E. curriculum and an arts elective, dance courses introduce students to a range of styles while building strength, coordination, and confidence.
Located at the heart of Albany Academy’s campus, the Robison Track is a vital part of the school’s athletic and wellness facilities. The track provides a high-quality surface for training, competition, and physical education across all divisions.
Home to the Academy’s track and field and cross country teams, the Robison Track supports student-athletes as they build strength, discipline, and teamwork. Beyond formal practices and meets, it serves as a space for fitness, movement, and community—whether students are running warm-ups in PE class or walking with their classmates during the school's annual Track-or-Treat event.
A cornerstone of Albany Academy’s athletic facilities, the Standish Pool provides students with access to a high-quality, six-lane swimming facility right on campus. Whether students are training as part of the swim team, learning water safety skills in physical education, or participating in recreational activities, the pool plays an integral role in promoting wellness, confidence, and teamwork.
Used by students across all divisions, the Standish Pool also supports Academy’s commitment to a well-rounded student experience—offering opportunities for athletic growth, leadership development, and community engagement. Throughout the year, the space is home to swim meets, practices, and special events that bring families and students together in celebration of skill, spirit, and school pride.
