Alumni Association Update | June 2026

Mark Spiers 'pp, P'32 speaking at the 2025 senior BBQ.

Dear Albany Academy Alumni and Community,

As another school year closes, I find myself reflecting on what makes the Albany Academy alumni community so special. This spring was a wonderful reminder that while our campus, programs, and students continue to evolve, the bonds formed here endure across generations.

Reunion Weekend once again served as a powerful celebration of those connections. Alumni returned to campus to reconnect with classmates, teammates, teachers, and friends, sharing memories while creating new ones. The weekend’s Hall of Fame inductions recognized outstanding achievements in athletics and the arts, while the stories of our distinguished alumni and alumnae reminded us of the many ways Academy graduates continue to lead, serve, innovate, and make a difference in their communities and professions. Hearing these stories was both inspiring and humbling, reinforcing the enduring values of character, leadership, service, and lifelong learning that have long defined an Academy education.

What stands out most from weekends like these is the opportunity to connect—not only with those from our own class years, but with alumni from decades before and after us. There is something uniquely special about gathering with members of the Academy family whose experiences may span generations, yet whose connection to the school remains remarkably similar.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Chris Lauricella for his leadership and service as Head of School. Chris guided the Albany Academy through some of the most significant moments in our school’s history, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued evolution of the merger that brought together Albany Academy for Boys and Albany Academy for Girls into the thriving institution we know today. On behalf of the Alumni Association, thank you, Chris, for your dedication to our students, faculty, and community.

At the same time, we are excited to welcome Michael Turner to the Albany Academy family as our next Head of School. We look forward to supporting Michael as he begins this new chapter and helping him build strong connections with our alumni community. The future of Albany Academy is bright, and we are eager to see the school continue to thrive under his leadership.

Thank you for your continued engagement and support of Albany Academy. Whether you attended an event this year, volunteered your time, mentored a student, supported a school initiative, or simply stayed connected to the Academy, your involvement helps strengthen our community and preserve the traditions that have defined our school for more than 200 years.

I wish you and your families a wonderful summer and look forward to seeing many of you back on campus in the year ahead.

Kind Regards,

Mark Spiers ’99 P’32
President, The Albany Academy Alumni Association
