Albany Academy Announces Multi-Year Transition to Prep School Athletic Leagues

Albany Academy is pleased to announce a significant step forward for our athletic program: the commencement of a multi-year transition in league participation, aimed at enhancing opportunities for our student-athletes.

Beginning in fall 2025, several Albany Academy teams will join the prestigious New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) and the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS), aligning us with peer independent schools and providing increased visibility for our athletes who aspire to compete at the collegiate level. Other teams will continue to compete in leagues under the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA), ensuring a balance of tradition and new challenges.

This thoughtful realignment comes after extensive study by school leadership and is rooted in our commitment to delivering the best possible athletic experience. Our goals are to:

• Ensure competitive excellence and the right level of challenge for each team
• Promote values-based sportsmanship
• Align with peer institutions while supporting our academic mission
• Offer greater exposure for student-athletes to college coaches and recruiters

This is the first step in a broader, student-centered transition. We will continue to assess and refine league participation in future seasons to best meet the needs of our athletes and teams.
